Robotic Surgery We recently have incorporated DAVINCI Robot to our Surgical Room. This robot, which is unique in Uruguay, represents for many professionals The Third Surgery Revolution and gives Surgeons the possibility of operating much more accurately with minimal incisions for the patient. Recuperation after surgery is almost without pain and faster than with a traditional procedure. This technology is being used in the first world for Urologic, General, Gynaecologic, and Otolaryngologic surgeries. Professionals from our staff have been trained to use this innovative technology. Dr. Gustavo Malffato with foreign Anaesthetists has been in charge of the first surgeries with Davinci. These interventions were related to prostate tumors. Definitely, robotic surgery is a great scientific advance for our Hospital and installs us as pioneers in this kind of technology. Neuronavigator Medtronic Neuronavigator incorporated to British Hospital is unique in the regional area. Image guided surgery has revolutionized traditional surgical techniques providing surgeons with human body 3D images and the possibility of exploring it in a different way. This technology is similar to the one used in Global Positioning System (GPS) what allows surgeons to have an accurate and controlled view of the patient, knowing for example, where the normal tissue ends and a brain tumor starts. Information flowing constantly helps professionals to improve and adjust their practice, being sure they are working in the correct areas. This technology leads to important benefits for our patients. Precision is notoriously higher, recovering and intervention times are shorter, surgical incisions are smaller and general results are better. Image guided surgery, also provides new alternatives to patients with several pathologies, to patients who cannot be submitted to big invasive surgeries or to those patients whose pathology prohibited a surgery in the past.
